Never Travel In France Without Packing These Important ItemsPosted by Jean-Luc Michelet |
Few experiences will provide more magic and wonder than a trip to France, but visitors should not leave home without preparing properly. There are certain items that are necessary for a safe and enjoyable trip, especially in a place where a foreign language is spoken. Nobody should ever travel in France without making sure they pack these important things.
Nobody likes to immediately identify themselves as a tourist by whipping out a map at every turn. However, when traveling so far away from home, it is absolutely necessary to have some way of knowing how to get around. There is nothing scarier than getting lost and not being able to communicate with the locals. As an alternative to a awkward folded map, pick up a pocked sized atlas or download a map to a cell phone.
In France, the best way to get around is on foot. This means that one of the most important things to pack is a pair of comfortable walking shoes. It would be awful to make it all the way to France and not enjoy the sights because of aching feet. Those who cannot afford a new pair of shoes should at least invest in a couple of walking inserts to help them along.
People who are new to international travel may be unaware that it is necessary to convert the electrical current before using any electronics. Although the converters are easy to find and inexpensive at home, it is shocking how difficult they are to find in France. Most electronics from overseas will not fit into European outlets and the foreign current can cause them to burn out.
While it is not necessary to be fluent in French when visiting France, it helps to know a few key terms just to get around. Be sure to pack some kind of translator, whether it is electronic or a book. Electronic translators are great because they can pronounce the words, but a travel map with key words is easy to pull in and out of a backpack when it is needed.
When traveling around France, just as much thought needs to be given to the actual luggage as to what gets packed in it. Once in France, most long distance travel will likely be done by train, so it is important to use luggage that is easy to transport and fits under a seat or in an overhead compartment. Another important feature in luggage is a secure place for important documents like passports and tickets.
A French getaway can be one of the most memorable things someone ever experiences. To help the excursion run as smoothly as possible, do not leave home without these key items. It is never a good idea to travel France without them.
